We wanted to provide a short update on the status of the Jaffari development application. As you may know, It has been just over 27 months since the original Jaffari development application was submitted to the City of Vaughan in October 2013. A new/revised application was submitted to the City in November 2015 and we provided a detailed update on the new proposal shortly thereafter.
We have received several requests asking us for an update and we are more than happy to share with you what we know. PTWA spoke to the City’s planning department last week. The purpose of the call was to get an update on their review of the revised Jaffari application and to better understand the timelines for City’s official response. The usual process is that the review process begins once the application is submitted and the City deems it to be complete. The City then sends the application out to a variety of different agencies for feedback including York Region, the school boards, the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), etc. Once feedback is received from all the agencies, the City begins their detailed evaluation process and an official report is prepared for council. The agencies can take a few months to respond and the City typically takes a few months afterwards to prepare their report and recommendations.
In our discussion with the City, it appears that a number of the agencies have asked for additional information before providing an official response and this includes surveys that cannot be completed in the winter. At this point, the City is expecting to receive this information in the late spring and they are targeting a final report back to council on the Jaffari application in the June/July timeframe. The City was very open about their ongoing concerns about traffic, parking, density, etc. and they are very supportive of our community’s concerns. We will continue to post more information as we receive updates from the City.
In the mean time, ANOTHER MAJOR APPLICATION (DA.15.074 & Z.15.031) has been submitted to the City regarding a new housing development for 220, 4 story stacked townhouses on the north west corner of Thornhill Woods (south east corner of Rutherford and Dufferin). We will be posting a detailed update on this new application within the next couple of days along with the drawings and technical details of the development. Crazy but true…more traffic chaos.
