Community Update: Jaffari Revised Development Proposal

The Preserve Thornhill Woods Association met with the City of Vaughan this morning to review the revised development proposal that was submitted by Jaffari Village at the end of May. You can see  the new plan and list of our main concerns on this site plan drawing:

Site Plan

Here is a summary of the key gaps:

  • While the building heights have been reduced, the removed floors have been spread elsewhere
  • The density has significantly increased from a Gross Floor Area (GFA) of 650,000 sq. ft. to a GFA of 782,000 sq. ft.
  • The number of housing units increased from 438 to 483
  • Parking remains a huge issue. There is still insufficient parking for the common usage of the mosque
  • There is no clear natural transition buffer between the facility and the rest of the neighbourhood
  • Homes in and around the Ner Israel and Apple Blossom entrances will suffer from traffic congestion
  • A new private high school has been added to the plan which will cause additional traffic chaos
  • The density must be brought down!
  • We are still extremely concerned that this will be a SEGREGATED community

The applicant has had far too many opportunities to come up with a reasonable plan. It is perceived that the applicant is clearly not listening and is focused on their own needs while ignoring the concerns of the community and the resolution passed by the City.

Below are the Email addresses of Vaughan City Council. Please feel free to send them all an Email outlining your concerns with this revised plan.
