Community Update

Many residents in the community have been reaching out to us in order to get an update on the Jaffari Village development application and we finally have new information to share with you this week.

As you may be aware, Vaughan City Council passed a resolution in September 2014 giving the representatives of Jaffari Village a deadline of November 15, 2014 to submit a revised conceptual master plan for their application. They also specified a deadline of March 2015 to provide a final status report on this application to City Council.

A new concept plan was submitted by the November 15 deadline but the revised plan ignored the majority of the concerns raised by both the community and the City’s planning department. In our opinion, the revised plan was a big step backwards and the City instructed the applicant to come back with yet another new plan.

The March 2015 deadline came and went and no official revised concept plan was received by the City. This last Tuesday (May 5), Councillor Sandra Racco tabled a new motion which requested the following:

  • The applicant has until May 31, 2015 to submit a revised concept plan and a July 10, 2015 deadline to submit a complete application or they are requested to abandon the application.
  • The Council also requested that the applicant provide clarity to the community and Working Group on how they wish to proceed at the earliest opportunity.

The motion was passed by Vaughan City Council during the May 5th Committee of the Whole Meeting and we would like to thank Councillor Sandra Racco tabling the motion and keeping the pressure up to get resolution on this issue.

We want to be very open with the community. Despite these developments, there have been no discussions between the community and Jaffari Village since the working group sessions were suspended last summer. Jaffari Village has not consulted with the community regarding any proposed changes to their plan nor has the City receive any plans to share with the community. We know that City staff have met multiple times with Jaffari’s planners and are working with them on the revised plan, but no attempt has been made to gain community feedback on these changes. Both Council resolutions indicate that the working group sessions will be reactivated once any new proposal is submitted and we will continue to pressure the City to make sure our community’s concerns are understood and addressed.

We provide you with a copy of the motion for your review.
