Vaughan Community Working Group Begins Work on March 26

The Preserve Thornhill Woods Association has been busy getting prepared for the first of five City of Vaughan Community Working Group meetings. These sessions were setup by the City to allow the community, the applicant and City staff to meet in an attempt to address the serious concerns that were raised by our community during the February 4 Committee of the Whole meeting.

We have selected five members of our community to represent us at these sessions. All representatives are highly knowledgeable about the application, the impact of this application on our neighbourhood, bring unique knowledge and skills to the negotiating table and are extremely passionate about preserving the unique nature of our community. Special thanks to everyone who volunteered.

The first Working Group session is scheduled for this coming Wednesday, March 26. We have been told that the first meeting will be limited to an information sharing meeting and we are looking forward to stating our position on all critical issues. We will be sending out a detailed update via the mailing list, and posting on this site after each meeting.

The City of Vaughan’s new official plan (VOP 2010) was just approved by the OMB a few months ago and the Bathurst Street corridor was excluded from high rise intensification. The proposed Jaffari Village development does not align with VOP 2010, is inappropriate for our neighbourhood and we will continue to object to this application until our community’s concerns are addressed.

Thank you for your continued support. Together, as a united community, we are going to preserve the spirit and beauty of Thornhill Woods.
